Comments from the Crowd and/or Ask Me Anything!!

My name is Catherine, and I'm a middle-aged misfit chick who lives in one of the most beautiful, eclectic and accepting places on planet Earth - Seattle, WA!

I just started writing this blog for the younger crowd of ALL genders, because I see too much out there pounding at your endearingly-tender, developing hearts; and I don't see NEARLY enough peeps concerned about them at all - as long as you're not bleeding REAL BLOOD you're all JUST FINE!

But it seems to me that life is ALOT harder for Tweens and Teenagers than it used to be for us 70's, 80's and 90's kids (and frankly, those decades were hard enough). Sometimes you just need an honest perspective from us older kids who've been down the road ahead of you.

Growing up is about ALOT more than just making sure you get good grades and behaving the way the adults around you teach you to behave. And there really doesn't seem to be enough "on demand" resources out there for young peeps just trying to get through the daily walk of life...

I don't care how silly "whatever it is" seems to you... Let me know what you want to talk about. Ask me anything - either in here in the comments to get a conversation going, or privately in email. I always keep things that need to stay private - private. :)

I'd LOVE to get a consortium of "cool, crazy Internet Aunts" (AKA iAunties - and maybe a few iUncles, ha!) to contribute their experiences to the conversations with the young ones in here.

  1. Hi Misfit Chick – what a cool idea for a hangout! Some of my favorite go-to people during my teen years were my “Cool and Crazy Aunts”. There were certain things that I wanted to learn about that weren’t always easy to go to my parents for because I didn’t feel like they would be able to understand where I was coming from. And sometimes there were things I felt my friends didn’t have enough experience with to help clear things up for me either. My Aunts were indeed two of the coolest people to turn to whenever I had a problem!

    1. Thanks, Dave! That is exactly why I started this blog - my Aunts were my "go-to" peeps when I needed a more "non-mom" perspective, ha! And while they can't replace Mom, they can sure do ALOT to help out and supplement the craziness that surrounds raising an empowered kid. :)

  2. I think you're right. Kids today have it harder and there appears to be so much potential for it to be even worse than it is. Not only has the economy changed for workers, politics seem to be working against young people more so than ever.

    1. Yeah, seems like growing up today is information overload - I know *I* have a hard time figuring out what's going on most days, I can't imagine being a kid with all this stuff coming at you at the same time.

  3. I think as kids start getting older, they need adults they can trust to start testing the "adult waters." Sort of like a mentor. That's a cool aunt - someone who cares enough for the kid to let then test their wings before their parents do.
